"The Masterpiece" Chris Masters
(as he was now known) made his RAW debut as a heel against WWE's star
Jobber, Steven Richards. During the match, Masters broke Richards' nose
(orbital bone). Richards was out of action after having facial
reconstructive surgery, but returned to end the feud with Masters,
losing a second match.
Masters' next main show appearance saw him claim that his Master-Lock
hold is unbreakable, and he even went as far as to put up $1,000 of his
own money for the person who can break out of the hold. So far, all
challengers have failed, among them such notables as Sgt. Slaughter,
Tajiri, Val Venis, and Rosey. Masters has increased the offered reward
each week, and sometimes has thrown in a bonus. For example, on May 16,
2005 while in Omaha, he offered $6,000 and a one-way ticket to anywhere
in the US. He then suggested that "Anywhere is better than Omaha,
Nebraska." Currently the prize money stands at $20,000.
Chris Masters begun again competing in standard wrestling matches
against such stars as Val Venis and Tajiri, beating all with his
Masterlock. On July 18, 2005 after defeating 400 pounder Rosey in the
Masterlock Challenge, Masters stated "it doesn't matter how big they
are!", this saw The Big Show come to the ring and ask to take the
challenge, but Masters refused and left the ring. A feud between the two
was hinted at for a couple of weeks but never came to be.
Masters was next seen in the RAW ring with WWE icon Shawn Michaels
interrupting a promo by Michaels. This encounter led to Michaels taking
part in a Masterlock Challerge on the August 29th. However, that week,
Shawn Michaels was a guest on Carlito Caribbean Cool's Carlito's Cabana
and was attacked by Masters and Carlito. Ric Flair then ran in and
helped Michaels clear the ring. Eric Bischoff then booked a tag team
match between Masters/Carlito and Michaels/Flair. Later in the night,
Flair was found beaten and bloodied with the assailants nowhere to be
found. Michaels fought both Carlito and Masters until a bandaged up
Flair returned. Flair had the upperhand until Carlito used a low blow (a
Flair speciality) on him and Masters then locked up Flair in his Master
Lock to claim his biggest victory yet. Michaels is now scheduled to
take The Master Lock Challenge on September 5, 2005.
On the September 5, 2005 edition of RAW, while unsuccessful in breaking
the Master Lock, Shawn Michaels did set a new record as he became the
longest-lasting competitor to take the Master Lock Challenge so far.
Michaels tried everything from ramming Masters' head into the turnbuckle
to flipping him on his back, but Masters was able to keep the Master
Lock applied. In an act of desperation, Shawn Michaels used a mule kick
to deliver a low blow. When his hands seemed to separate, Masters threw
HBK down to the mat, grabbed a steel chair and used it to hit Shawn
Michaels in the head. Masters then reapplied the hold and HBK was unable
to break free.
