Surya was born to actor Sivakumar and his wife Lakshmi in Chennai, but brought up in Coimbatore .
He is the eldest of three children , his younger brother is actor Karthik Sivakumar and he has a younger sister named Brindha Sivakumar .
He attended PSBB School and St. Bede's School in Chennai and graduated from Loyola College with a Bachelor of Commerce.
Surya debuted in the 1997 film Nerukku Ner directed by Vasanth and produced by Mani Ratnam .
Later, he played in 2001 remake Friends directed by Siddique and Nandha by Bala for which he received a Nadu Tamil Film Award .

coach Alkhas said he did Surya training for two hours every day. Each day , the type of exercise was different, but it still contained some form of cardio."Working on the abs is not enough , you have to exercise every part of the body. Abs will follow.
There are a lot of heart , mixed with aerobics and exercises focus on the abdominal muscles, said Surya .
His training regimen consisted of a half- hour of cardio and an hour and a half of muscle building exercises such as weight training , exercises using dead weight and many more.
Some of the exercises that Alkas Joseph had Surya do where - pulls , pulls , hanging leg raises leg , hanging oblique raises , static hanging leg raises and much more .
All this has been specifically targeted at strengthening the base and abdominal strengthening .

Surya said, " Diet is probably the most important part of the overall scheme. Right after work , it is essential to give your muscles the protein they need to repair torn muscles .
There is no point in developing really hard and do not stick to a proper diet .
Surya stayed away from fatty foods and all dairy products.
Surya had a high protein diet with egg whites for breakfast , a light healthy snack in the middle followed by a lunch that consisted of chicken.
Surya says he has a point to have a lot of water throughout the day. As this is one of the best ways to get rid of toxins in the body, which can also lead to bloating and lack of muscle definition .
FITNESS TIPS FROM ACTOR SURYA
While doing cardio, just run for about 25 minutes - that should be enough . You can get in other training schedules after .
Get a good coach and a dietician if you want to get six pack abs. It is not easy without some guidance. Do not follow fad diets.
Everyone's body is different and reacts differently to exercise and food.
Another important tip is that cutting salt may not be completely possible, but eat food without salt for a day can be achieved.
